Made of Stone 2026: 100KM Gravel Route
A 100km challenge that blends road endurance with off-road adventure, designed for riders who want something a little more varied than a standard sportive.
It starts with a tough opening stretch on tarmac, including the biggest climbs of the day, before opening out into rolling roads and a network of gravel sectors, green lanes, bridleways, and quieter non-tarmac roads that make up around 25% of the route.
Across the ride, you’ll move between steady road sections and these off-road sectors, creating a constantly changing rhythm that keeps things engaging from start to finish. It’s a true mixed-surface experience that rewards smart pacing early on and a steady approach as the terrain evolves.
A demanding but achievable 100km that delivers variety, progression, and a proper sense of adventure on the bike.
Full Route Description
The 100km gravel route takes the core challenge of the road ride and adds a more adventurous edge—perfect for riders who enjoy mixing steady endurance with a bit of off-road exploration.
You’ll begin on the same opening 25km as the other routes, rolling out on tarmac and easing into the ride. This first section includes the biggest climbs of the day, so it’s worth riding within yourself early on. Settle into a steady effort, spin the legs, and focus on keeping something in reserve—you’ll need it for what comes next.
At 25km, you’ll reach the first feed station. It’s a great place to refuel and reset, especially knowing the toughest climbing is already behind you.
From here, the route starts to reveal its character. You’ll begin to dip in and out of a series of gravel “sectors”—a mix of green lanes, bridleways, and quiet non-tarmac roads. These sections make up around 25% of the route and add a whole new dimension to the ride. Some are smooth and fast, others a little more technical, but all are rideable with the right approach. Expect to adjust your pace, pick your lines, and enjoy the variety.
The second feed station at around 40km comes just before the route really settles into its rhythm. Refuel well here, as the middle portion of the ride blends rolling tarmac with regular gravel sectors, keeping you engaged and testing your endurance in a different way to pure road riding.
Beyond this point, the challenge becomes about consistency and control. The gradients are generally more forgiving than the opening climbs, but the mix of surfaces means you’ll always need to stay focused. Ride smoothly, conserve energy where you can, and take each sector as it comes.
As you head into the final kilometres, the route gradually guides you back toward the finish, with a satisfying mix of terrain that lets you push on if you’ve paced it well.
With mechanical support and first aid available throughout the event, you can ride with confidence knowing help is never far away.
Overall, this 100km gravel route is a rewarding and varied challenge—combining early climbs, flowing road sections, and adventurous off-road sectors into one memorable ride. It’s ideal for riders looking to go beyond the standard sportive and experience something a little different, while still being completely achievable with the right pacing and mindset.
