Feel the wind in your face and the buzz in the air, there is nothing else that gives you a feeling quite like running.
Whether you’re new to it all and starting the couch to 5k, or you’re a seasoned runner on a mission, here are the essential items you need for some of your longer runs.
Running Essentials: What to Pack for your Next Run

Proper Footwear
Having the right footwear is a game changer for your running. Get a gait analysis to check that your shoes are not only fit for purpose, but fit for your feet and performing to the best of their ability. If you’re running regularly, you might want to also consider a shoe rotation, to make sure you’re getting an even wear and tear across your kicks.

Moisture Wicking Clothing
You build up a sweat, so having clothing that can wick away this moisture easily and leave you feeling fresh as a daisy for the miles you’re clocking is key. Shop for brands that are going to stand the test of time, the sweat, and also the wash, looking for pieces and brands that are known for quality craftsmanship and performance under pressure.

Hydration
Are you tuning into a water bottle or a hydration pack? Either way, water is an essential on every single run, filling your body back up with the good stuff and re-energising it for the road or trail ahead. Pack enough water to last, and don’t be shy about making your hydration system work for you.

Emergency Information
Carry your ID and emergency information at all times. Most smartphones allow you to set up a medical ID which can be viewed by anyone, and that supports the sharing of next of kin information should anything happen while you’re out running. But, it doesn’t hurt to keep a paper copy to hand, too.

Sunscreen
Get the SPF at the ready and protect your face, neck, arms and legs, and wherever else might be exposed to the sun. Not only is sunscreen essential to maintain healthy looking skin, but it also prevents burning. Don’t forget your nose, and wear a visor if it helps with the sun.

Nutrition
How are you feeling about the run? What snacks do you have in your pocket, perhaps you’re choosing protein and gels to keep you moving and keep that energy high, even when things start to feel hard. There are so many different options for nutrition and snacks out there to give you a boost, just make sure you’re choosing the one that is going to work for you at the right times, and ask a nutritionist if you need assistance.
