Behind the Project

Closing The Gap was created to show the reality of youth cycling development and the support behind junior cycling training and racing.
Team PAU riders are supported with coaching, race planning, performance analysis, and guidance through the cycling pathway to pro. Some riders are fully funded through bursaries, ensuring opportunity is based on talent and commitment rather than circumstance.
This cycling docuseries captures every element, showing what it takes to become a professional cyclist — the grit, ambition, and collective effort behind every rider’s journey.
About Closing the Gap: Behind the Scenes of Junior Cycling
Closing The Gap follows the real story of junior cyclists navigating the critical step between junior racing and the professional ranks. With exclusive behind-the-scenes access of junior cycling, race-day intensity, and honest reflection, the series captures what it really takes to become aspiring professional cyclists.
This is not just about results. Every ride is a lesson in focus, skill, and decision-making. One small error on the bike can have huge repercussions — not just for yourself, but for everyone in the race. This clip shows exactly that: the split-second mistakes, the risk, and the resilience that young riders must demonstrate every day.
Filmed across UK and European races, the series shows how young cyclists train and race, from coaching sessions to team debriefs and every challenge in between. Whether it’s a technical descent, a mechanical problem, or a tactical decision, viewers get a real sense of training and racing as a junior cyclist and what it takes to become a professional cyclist.
Whether you’re an aspiring rider, a parent, or a supporter of youth cycling development, this cycling docuseries offers an authentic window into life inside junior cycling teams and training, showing the highs, lows, and everything in between on the journey toward the pro ranks.
