Your training plan for the 2026 PAU Cycling Series
Preparing for the 2026 PAU Cycling Series does not have to be complicated. With three fully supported 100 km rides across Staffordshire: Spring Forward, Made of Stone, and Sandon Century, a structured training plan can help you build confidence, enjoy every mile, and get the most out of the scenic routes.
This plan is approved by our Cycling Coach, Maddie Gammons, Coach to Team PAU. Use this month by month guide to structure your training in the weeks leading up to the events.
3-4 Months Out
– Aim for 80–100 km per week across 2–3 rides.
– Focus on spending time on the bike comfortably, getting used to the seat, pedals, and general riding rhythm.
– Include one longer ride per week, gradually increasing from 25 km to 50–60 km.
– Practice both road and mixed-surface riding to prepare for Spring Forward (road) and Made of Stone (gravel/mixed surfaces).
2 Months Out
– Increase weekly riding to 100–120 km, including one or two longer rides of 70–80 km.
– Include some gentle climbs and rolling terrain to mirror what you’ll encounter.
– Test hydration, snacks, and clothing on longer rides, so you know what works for you.
4-6 Weeks Out
– Weekly distance around 100–140 km, with at least one ride of 80–90 km.
– Mix in varied terrain, including quiet lanes, gentle climbs, and gravel sections if possible
– Try a back-to-back ride weekend to get used to being in the saddle for extended periods.
2 Weeks Out
– Reduce weekly distance by 30–40% to allow your body to recover.
– Keep rides shorter and easy, focusing on enjoying the outdoors.
– Check your bike setup and comfort, ensuring everything is ready for the events.
Week Of The 100KM Sportive
– Stick to short, easy rides and enjoy the scenery.
– Review routes and GPX files, noting any areas where you might want to take it steady
– Rest well and get excited for the ride!
