WHY WE RUN.
From the dark morning runners to the after-work sprinters, there is a magic to be found when your feet start hitting that ground, no matter the time of day or whatever has come before. Somehow, you always feel better after, there’s a science behind that but we prefer to focus on the feeling.
The physical benefits kind of speak for themselves, but still, over time, we can run a little further, go a little faster, endure for a little longer. It doesn’t matter where you started and it doesn’t matter where you’re heading, all you know is that you’re a runner, and that feels good.
The taped knees and the worn out shoes, the jog that breaks when you’re just warm enough, and the stretches you dread after it’s said and done. They’re important, but we don’t enjoy them.
Mental benefits are harder to quantify, fathom, make sense of, but there’s a slowing of the mind, an almost meditative state to be found, focussing on the pace and the breath, no room for anything else.
Whether it’s a block or a mile, round the houses or round the track, there is a comfort in the run that can’t be found anywhere else. That is why we run.
