“Should I get gait analysis?” – YES!
We know how the right pair of running shoes can make the world of difference.
This journal explains what “gait analysis” is, and why every runner should get theirs booked in to maximise their performance…
THREE REASONS TO GET A GAIT ANALYSIS.
For of all, what is GAIT Analysis?
A gait analysis is essentially an assessment of how you walk, run, and stand. It’s carried out to check for pronation. This means whether or not your foot rolls in or out and to what extent, which could be having an impact on performance and comfort when you are running.
You are put into a neutral running shoe and asked to get onto the treadmill for 30 seconds, so a professional can record and analyse your gait to check what type of shoe is best to support you on your running journey. Explore the range of different kinds of running shoes here.
Three reasons you should get a gait analysis
If you still need a little convincing, here are three of our top reasons why you should get a gait analysis.
Better performance
While a gait analysis isn’t going to turn you into a speedy runner overnight, having the proper set up when you’re running will make you a better runner, and one that is able to run for longer and more regularly, due to having the right running shoes and gait support for a more comfortable run.
Reduced injury
Having the correct technique and form when you are running both help to prevent injury. This is exactly what a gait analysis helps with, to ensure that you are looking after your ankles and feet and running in a way that sets you up for long-term success.
For the long-haul
A gait analysis can actually make your running shoes last longer, as you are not wearing down either side at the pace you might have been before. There are hundreds of benefits to getting running shoes that fit and serve your feet properly, and this is just one of them when we look at your gait. For more ways to make your shoes last longer, consider shoe rotation – this can help your performance too!
Where can you get a gait analysis?
Running shops offer gait analysis and you need to make sure that yours is being carried out by someone who knows their stuff and can advise you impartially and properly.
You can have your gait analysis for free at any our three PAU Run & Ride stores across Staffordshire and Cheshire. We have running coaches and ex-running professionals carrying them out, so you know that you, and your feet, are in safe hands at PAU.
Remember to get your gait analysis checked every 12 months or so, as your gait can change with age and how you move.
It’s especially important for your long distance runs – check out our Marathon Training Plan here.
